Welcome to NYC! ELSICon is being held at Convene located at
117 West 46th Street in Midtown Manhattan. The easiest way to access the conference venue is via subway.
Riding the Subway: Riding the subway is easier than it ever has been! NYC MTA no longer requires you to buy metrocards to access the subway. We recommend using a contactless credit card or your smartphone wallet to pay for the subway. Just hold the card or the phone over the screen at the turnstile. Please note, the NYC subway is integrated into Google Maps. To view subway routes, enter the address you’re navigating to and click “directions,” then click the train icon to view subway routes (see image below). The directions will include subway routes and walking directions. Inside the subway station there will be signs directing you toward trains and specific exits - these will coincide with the directions in Google Maps. It may be helpful to to enter in a target arrival time, so that you can plan ahead. Directions from the Conference Hotels: If you are traveling from one of the 3 hotels listed on
our website, the easiest travel to the conference venue is to take the NYC subway at 79th street and Broadway. You will take the Number 1 train going Downtown (the Number 1 train is the only train that stops at this station). Take it to the 50th street Station (4th stop after 72, 59, and 66 street stations). Expect your trip to be about 20 minutes.
Directions from Columbia University Dormitories: For those who are staying at the dorms on the Columbia University Morningside campus, the easiest way to travel to the conference venue is to take the NYC subway at Broadway and 116th Street. Take the Number 1 train going Downtown to 50th Street Station (9th stop, next stop after 59th Street - Columbus Circle). You will have about an eight minute walk to Convene from the station. It will take about 25 minutes in total.

Travel to NYC
Amtrak: Moynihan Train Hall at Penn Station provides access to Amtrak. Subway stations at 34th St - Penn Station (wheelchair accessible) allow access to 1 2 3 Trains.
NYC Airports:
Taxis: The easiest way to get to and from the airports is via Taxi. Taxis fares are regulated by the NYC Taxi and Limousine Commission - the rates are standardized and will not arbitrarily change based on demand. Please note that tipping is customary for riding taxis.
Rideshare Apps: Alternatively, you can use Uber, Lyft, or Revel to travel to and from the airport. Rideshare apps will require you to include the terminal you will be picked up from. Request the ride upon entering the ground transportation area.
Safety Tip: Ignore offers of transportation from solicitors in the terminal. Soliciting of ground transportation is illegal and many illegal solicitors are unlicensed and uninsured. To obtain ground transportation information, please visit the Port Authority Welcome Center located in the arrivals area of each terminal, where uniformed staff will be happy to assist you. Alternately, you may head directly for the taxi stand located outside each terminal for safe and legitimate transportation. Ignore non-uniformed people offering to assist with baggage. Seek out uniformed porters or airline employees for baggage assistance.
- Between JFK and Manhattan - The flat rate is $70 to the first destination (plus tolls and tip). Follow the signs for ground transportation and look for the yellow signs for taxis. A uniformed attendant will assign you to a yellow taxi.
- Public Transit: A cheaper option is to travel to Manhattan from JFK via subway. Click here to learn more.
- Between Laguardia and Manhattan - Laguardia is much closer to Manhattan than JFK and therefore cheaper to get to. Click here to view the estimated rates depending on the location of your hotel. Follow the yellow signs for Taxis. Once you arrive at the taxi cue, a uniformed attendant will assign you to a yellow taxi.
