The National Human Genome Research Institute’s (NHGRI) Ethical, Legal, and Social Implications (ELSI) Research Program was established as part of the Human Genome Project in 1990. The ELSI Research Program is funded by a Congressional set-aside mandating that a minimum of 5% of the NHGRI’s extramural program budget be used for ELSI research ($23M in FY 2023). The program supports basic and applied research on the ELSI of genetics and genomics for individuals, families, communities, and health and social systems. Research into the non-medical use of genomic and genetic information and technologies is also supported. This poster summarizes the types of research supported by the ELSI Research Program and provides an overview of NIH resources available to investigators and trainees wishing to pursue ELSI research funding. Notices of funding opportunities for training and research, current areas of research interest, key application requirements, and tools to assist with writing and submitting grants are highlighted. Information about topical webinars, networking opportunities, sample grant applications, and other resources are also included. NHGRI ELSI Program Directors that administer, oversee, and set priorities for the ELSI Research Program will be available to answer questions and provide further information.
