Jusaku Minari, Ph.D., is an associate professor in the Uehiro Research Division for IPS Cell Ethics, the Center for iPS Cell Research and Application (CiRA), Kyoto University, Japan. After receiving his Ph.D. in engineering from the University of Kitakyushu in 2010, he was a postdoctoral researcher in the field of genomics and society at the Institute for Research in Humanities, Kyoto University; an assistant professor at the Graduate School of Medicine, Osaka University; and then a deputy director at the Department of Research Infrastructure (particularly for the promotion of genomic medicine), Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED), a government funding agency. He has experience as a program officer at AMED and on a tri-ministerial committee on governmental ethical guidelines for medical research. His overseas experience included studying biochemistry at the University of Bath in 2007 and biomedical ethics at the University of Oxford (Centre for Health, Law, and Emerging Technologies: HeLEX) in 2014. His recent research focuses on ethical, legal, and policy issues in emerging biomedical research, particularly in relation to genome medicine, regenerative medicine and cell therapies, dual-use research of concern, and public engagement.
