Christie Byars-Chavez is a member of the Chickasaw Nation and a descendent of the Mississippi Choctaw. She earned a phlebotomy and medical terminology certification from Southern Oklahoma Technology Center in 1994. Mrs. Byars-Chavez 26-year career with the Chickasaw Nation focused on several areas including tobacco cessation, alcohol and drug prevention, and suicide awareness and prevention. From 2016 - 2021 she began working on the ELSI grant as a research assisitant. She is an active community member in the Chickasaw Nation and has the ability to connect with people whereever she goes. She just celebrated her 26th year with the Chickasaw Nation in February. Ms. Byars-Chavez's faith and family are integral to her life.
